Abortions up to birth

Aug 25 2022, 2:05 PM

It does not matter if anybody is aborting babies right up to birth yet. What matters is Vermont law allows abortion right up to birth with no restrictions, no regulations, no safeguards for women’s health.

Vermont law allows non-physicians to perform abortions. Vermont law protects abortion providers. In essence Vermont law, Act 47, legalized back-alley abortions.

Now that Roe v Wade has been overturned, it would not surprise me if unethical abortion providers moved to Vermont to set up businesses. Did Planned Parenthood and the University of Vermont Medical Center think they would be the only abortion providers in Vermont? What would prevent "Abortions R Us" from locating in Vermont?

Article 22 says abortions “shall not be denied or infringed unless justified by a compelling State interest achieved by the least restrictive means." What exactly does that mean? Can late-term abortions be performed in Vermont at unregulated abortion clinics by non-physician abortion providers? Vermont law says it is legal. Article 22 says abortions cannot be denied or infringed.

We must vote no for Article 22.
