Timothy Arbuckle, who was initially charged with second-degree murder as an accessory in the death of Vincent Tamburello Jr. on a softball field in Chester in 2008, eventually pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of aggravated assault and was given a five- to 12-year sentence, all suspended but for three years, in 2020.

Police said David R. Goldstein, 56, of Barre City had suffered a medical event Monday while incarcerated in the Springfield prison and later died at a nearby hospital. Although he had served his minimum sentence, Goldstein was still being held for “lack of proper housing.”

Police said the death of Raymond Gadreault is not considered suspicious and does “not appear to be Covid related.” Gadreault helped reveal in December 2019 that a Black man in custody at the Newport prison died as he begged for help while struggling to breathe.

Dominick Ekroos has been charged with attempted escape and criminal mischief. Ekroos was taken into custody before he could make it outside the facility’s perimeter fencing, which was topped by barbed wire, authorities said.
