James F. Varney, Sr., eternal optimist

Burlington, James F. Varney, Sr. (Jim, Jimmy) passed away on April 2, 2019 at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare. He was born in Rochester, NH on June 21, 1944, the son of Walter E. and Leona A. (Daley) Varney.

Jim worked as a janitor for the majority of his adult life and for more than 15 of those years, he was working  at the University Mall in South Burlington.

Jim appreciated the simple things in life: being with family and friends, going for drives, country music, being outside, and people watching — while drinking either a Pepsi or a coffee. He was an eternal optimist, with a genuine and persuasive smile.  He was gentle, kind and loved everyone.

 


Family Information

Jim is survived by his longtime companion Jackie North of Burlington, daughter Laura Prive and her husband Fabian of Newport, VT, daughter Kathy Fleury and her husband Christopher of South Burlington and his son James Varney, Jr. of South Burlington,VT.  He is also survived by his granddaughters Hilary Daniels of South Burlington,VT, Brooke and Stephanie Tinker of Newport,VT grandsons Scott Morits, Jordan Varney and Austin Varney of St.Albans, VT and Scott Tinker of Newport,VT, great grandson Jasper Varney of South Burlington and great granddaughters Naomi Hodgdon and Aria Tinker of Newport, VT.
