Thomas W. Sykas Jr., a generous man, tinkerer and grandfather
Thomas W. Sykas Jr., 65, died at his home in Burlington, on March 27, 2022, following a long struggle with COPD.
Born in 1956 to Ruth (Woodard) and Thomas Sykas, Sr. of Montpelier, he spent his childhood on Cherry Avenue, where he enjoyed helping his parents make ribbon candy and paddle pops, and spending time learning how to repair most anything. He was active in the Cub and Boy Scouts, at Bethany Church, where he also participated in Sunday School and worship with his family.
As an adult, Tom continued to enjoy tinkering, fixing things, and finding ways to recycle old items into new creations. He is described by friends and family as a generous, kind, and loving man, willing to lend a hand whenever needed. He enjoyed spending time with his children, working on his truck, plowing, spending time at his camp on Lake Champlain, riding his motorcycle and teasing his sisters.
Tom is predeceased by his mother and father, grandparents, several aunts and uncles, his brother Tim Sykas and sister Ruth Sykas Beard. He is survived by his former wife Stacy Superneau Sykas, children Kassiopeia, Teeana, Abbie, and TJ Sykas, sisters Anna (Fred Crowley) and Elizabeth (Liz) Sykas, Sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Sykas, granddaughter Lydia Roberge as well as six nephews, five nieces, one grandnephew and three grandnieces, as well as many cousins. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Bella.
Tom will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Burial will be held at the convenience of his family.
