Vermont is difficult to get to and adjacent to other states that will likely preserve abortion access, should federal protections be dissolved. But doctors and advocates still expect to see a rise in out-of-state patients.
Mifepristone and misoprostol — the drugs that enduce abortion until 11 weeks of pregnancy — now are accessible via mail. For Vermont, this could mean more seamless abortion access in rural parts of the state, but some say they are concerned about safety.
What the amendment will do is ensure that individual patients, not politicians, will have the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions.
