Award-winning children’s author and illustrator, Jason Chin, to host VTDigger Earth Day event for kids on April 22

Looking for an educational way to celebrate Earth Day this year? Vermont-based author and illustrator Jason Chin will host a virtual story hour and draw along event on April 22 from 1 to 2 p.m., taking young viewers behind the scenes of his beautiful and informative books.

RSVP below to participate in the Zoom webinar, or tune in to the livestream above or on the VTDigger homepage at 1 p.m.

VTDigger is proud to present this event in partnership with the Children’s Literacy Foundation as part of our spring membership drive. Our goal is to inspire 3,000 VTDigger readers to help us meet 2021 budgetary needs for our newsroom and send summer reading books to 3,000 Vermont kids across the state.

RSVP here for this special Earth Day event. Donations are suggested, but not required. Each donation will support VTDigger’s high-quality local journalism and send one book to a Vermont kid at risk of growing up with low literacy skills.

Chin is the author of acclaimed children’s books such as Gravity, Island: A Story of the Galapagos, Redwoods and Coral Reefs. His book Grand Canyon won a Caldecott Honor in 2018 and is one of just a few nonfiction picture books in history to be awarded the distinction.

In each story, Chin uses a combination of ink, watercolor and digital tools to create stunning visuals, inspiring young readers to explore and value natural ecosystems. Most recently he illustrated Water is Water by Miranda Paul, a poetic and innovative journey about phases of the water cycle.

The general public, but especially those with young ones in their lives, are invited to join this family-friendly event in which Chin will read one of his books, answer questions and lead a draw along activity.

Jason Chin lives in Burlington with his family.

You can RSVP here for the event.
